Newscaster Posting Policy
Overview
Newscaster messages are submitted and viewed through the My MCC web portal at https://mymcc.middlesex.edu.
After logging on to My MCC, search for News to find the link for Newscaster.
Any MCC employee may submit their own Newscaster message online at the Newscaster site. Messages submitted through Newscaster are kept in a pending state until approved by a Newscaster Manager. Messages in a pending state are not viewable by the general college community. When a message is submitted, an email is automatically generated to all Newscaster Managers that a message is awaiting approval. Once approved, the message is automatically posted for all Faculty and Staff to view.
Note: Messages submitted to Newscaster by Newscaster Managers will bypass the pending state and be published immediately.

MESSAGE TYPES:
The college allows the use of the email news capability to post notices in the following categories:
- Information about college programs, activities, events, and employment related matters of potential applicability to significant numbers of employees.
- Personal or Family news such as births, deaths, marriages or other significant life events.The posting of this information must be approved in advance by the involved employee or family members, as well as the Human Resources Office.
The college “newscaster” will not be used to publicize programs or events that are not directly related to the college or student activities.
MESSAGE STATUS AND CONTENT RULES:
- Once a message is received by a Newscaster Manager, it is presumed to be “ready to post”. It will either be posted immediately or at their discretion.
- Proof read, Format, and Spell Check your message before submitting it. Newscaster Managers will not perform these functions.
- Include a contact name and phone number in the message.
- Include relevant dates, times and locations in the announcement.
- Please avoid using attachments. Type or copy & paste the text of the message directly in the form. Microsoft Word documents containing only text are unnecessary, and most users do not bother to read them.
- Newscaster message will expire no later than 90 days after posting.
- Newscaster messages are for MCC faculty and staff viewing only. However, due to the inherent security risks associated with communications over the internet, please do not include any sensitive information in a message.
To Submit a Message for Approval Through Newscaster:
- After logging into the My MCC web portal (https://mymcc.middlesex.edu), search for News to find the link for Newscaster.
- Click on the “Request Form” link located in the "Submit your news" box
- Fill in the fields on the Request Form:
NOTE: You may copy and paste your message from MS-Word to the Headline field or the News Detail field. Select your text in Word and press CTRL-C (to copy). Click in the Headline or News Detail field on this form and press CTRL-V (to paste.)
Headline (required field): Enter a headline or subject for the message. Single line field.
News Detail: Enter the text or copy & paste the text of the message. Use the toolbar at the top
to format as needed.
Expires: The default setting is one month from the date submitted. Adjust as needed
Posted By (required field): Enter the name of the author of the message. If needed, click the
"Attach File" link to include a file with the news announcement. However, avoid attachments, if
possible. Readers will usually ignore them.
- Click the "OK" link to submit the news message for approval.
After clicking "OK", an email is automatically generated to all Newscaster Managers that a posting is awaiting approval on Newscaster. When the message is approved it will appear in the public list of messages. If rejected, you will be notified via email and a rejection reason will be included.
