2018-2019 Academic Year:

Dual Enrollment Scholarship Dinner - Thursday, 1/31/19, from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Cowan Center, Lower Cafe, Lowell campus: Nominated dual enrolled students received a certificate and scholarship (good towards the cost of one STEM-related course) funded by the STEM Starter Academy grant. Students receiving this honor are now considered STEM Starter Academy Scholars. 22 students were nominated and received this scholarship.

Welcome Back Bash - Thursday, 1/24/19, from 9:00-11:00 am in the Cowan Center, Pathways Center, room 306, Lowell campus: Students gathered to celebrate the beginning of the spring 2019 semester by participating in fun and games and enjoying snacks and refreshments. The Pathways Center advertised this event by hosting a table in the Cowan Center lobby on 1/23/19. 60 attendees.

Soft Skills Seminars for STEM & Health students - November-December 2018, Lowell, campus: The Pathways Center hosted three soft skills seminars for STEM and Health students entering these fields to assist students with growing their communication skills. 39 participants.

Engineering Panel Night - Thursday, 10/25/18, from 6:00-8:00 pm in Cafe East, Bedford campus. 75 attendees.
STEM Open House Major Celebration - Monday, 10/22/18, from 2:00-6:00 pm, Campus Center, Bedford campus. 56 attendees.
Open House Kick-Off - Monday, 10/22/18, from 9:00-11:00 am, Cowan Center, Pathways Center, Lowell campus. 56 attendees.
Cisco Field Trip - Monday, 10/22/18, 11:00 am, with Prof. Syeda Ferdous Begum. 27 attendees.

Summer 2018:

STEM Starter Academy Summer Bridge program is an introduction & preparation program for new or first-year MCC students interested in majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) & Health disciplines for successful completion of certificates/degrees in these fields. This Health & STEM Pathways Center Summer Bridge is a free two-week program to explore Health and STEM lab skills, develop insight on issues surrounding a “wicked problem”, develop course success skills and also insight into successful career outcomes. Summer Bridge scholars develop connections and a stronger sense of belonging to MCC through community building activities, peer mentoring programs, and proactive advising with the Pathways Center staff that continue beyond the summer and throughout their academic career at MCC.



STEM Starter Academy Math Booster program is free and intensive four-week workshop that provides students the opportunity to development fundamental mathematical skills necessary to be successful in STEM/Health programs at the college level. The Math Booster prepares students for the Accuplacer placement test, saves students time and money by accelerating preparation for college-level math, give additional academic support through MCC faculty, peer tutors, and the Pathways Center staff.

UMass Lowell Workshops
are unique opportunities for more seasoned students studying STEM & Health who are interested in advancing to a 4-year institution. The UML Workshops participants spent one-week at UML, using UML classrooms and laboratories, being taught by UML professors, working with UML undergraduate student assistants in hands-on research workshops in the fields of BIOTECHNOLOGY, CLINICAL LAB SCIENCE, COMPUTER SCIENCE, Environmental Science, and Physics. UML Workshops typically occur over the Winter Break (January).

STEM Starter Academy Brain Food Sessions are various academic and career workshops that supports students in their development. Brain Food sessions are your chance to learn new skills that will help you become a more successful student and professional. These sessions happen throughout the academic year and is also a great opportunity to meet new people, make connections and fuel your brain with delicious food brought to you completely free by the STEM Starter Academy.

Spring 2014 STEM Educator Institute

Wednesday, May 28; Monday, June 9; Wednesday; June 11 from 3:30-5:30PM at MCC Bedford Campus

High school & college STEM faculty were invited to participate in this Institute to explore alignment of STEM curriculum and expectations for student learning.
