Scholarship Opportunities for Veteran and Military-Connected Students
Able Flight Scholarship
Candidates with a physical disability may apply. Awards have been given to students who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injury, wounded veterans, people with congenital birth defects and people who have lost limbs.
AFCEA Scholarships
Scholarships are offered to active-duty and honorably discharged U.S. Military Veterans.
College major specifications vary per scholarship.
American Legion Legacy Scholarship
Provides scholarships to children of Post 9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or
who have a combined VA disability rating of 50% or greater. Apply January 1 to April
1.
AMVETS Scholarships
Available to veterans as well as children and grandchildren of veterans.
Eligible candidates are active-duty and retired members of the United States Army. Scholarships are given for undergraduate studies.
CIA Undergraduate Scholarship Program
This scholarship program offers 10 awards for $18,000. Student must have scored at least 1000 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT, demonstrate a financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA and interested in a CIA career.
Education Connection Military Scholarship for Veterans, Active Duty and Military Spouses Various scholarships available for veterans, active military and spouse/dependents.
Equal Justice Scholarship
This scholarship is for $1,000 and open to high school seniors, college students or graduate students. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Deadline is May 31, 2024.
Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Available to children of active-duty military personnel to assist with studying or interning abroad for credit-bearing programs.
Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
The Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Each Cooke Scholar has access to generous financial support for two to three years, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to connect with the thriving community of fellow scholars. It one of the largest private scholarships for two-year and community college transfer students in the country.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Sophomore Status – Be a current student at an accredited U.S. community college or two-year institution with sophomore status by January 1, 2024, or a recent graduate (since spring 2019).
- Fall College Enrollment– Plan to enroll full-time in a baccalaureate program at an accredited college or university in fall 2024.
- GPA– Have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
- Financial Need– Demonstrate unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.
- No previous enrollment or attendance at a four-year institution – Students who have attended a four-year institution in the past are not eligible for this scholarship.
The application deadline is January 11, 2024.
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
Scholarships available to the children of Marines.
Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship
Available to all veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart. The program is also open to widows and dependents of those service-members who have been awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. Award amounts vary, and are based on financial need.
National Association of Veterans' Program Administrators (NAVPA)
This $1,000 scholarship is available for US Active Duty military, US Military veterans or US Service/Member/Veteran dependents.
New England Transfer Association
Each year the New England Transfer Association awards up to six $1,000 scholarships
to local transfer students.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum GPA for consideration: 3.0
- Be eligible to receive an Associate degree during the 2022-2023 academic year
- Transfer from a regionally accredited two-year New England college or university to a regionally accredited New England college or university in either the spring or fall semester of 2023.
- At least 30 credits completed from the sending institution

Available to Massachusetts residents that are homeless or have been homeless in the past year.
One Family Scholarship
Offers scholarships to homeless or at-risk of being homeless single parents.
Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarship
Provides PVA members and their immediate family members scholarships through our Educational Scholarship Program
Pat Tillman Foundation - Leadership Through Action Scholarship
Tilman Military Scholars program which provides financial assistance to veterans and active-duty military who wish to start, continue, or finish their college education. Award amounts vary, and eligibility is determined by merit as well as financial need. Applicants are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA, and must submit two essays for consideration.

Attorney Scott Henry Scholarship
This scholarship is for $1,000. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submit an essay that suggests ways to improve safety in the community in relation to dringing and driving. Deadline is June 1, 2024.
UMASS Boston Foster Furcolo Scholarship
Are you thinking about transferring to UMass Boston? If your answer is YES, this scholarship might be for you.
The UMASS BOSTON Foster Furcolo Scholarship was established to honor Foster Furcolo who served as governor of Massachusetts from 1957 to 1960. He was instrumental in the creation of the system of public community colleges in the Commonwealth.
This is a two-year scholarship covering tuition and most mandatory fees to one graduate of each public community
college in Massachusetts.
Application is due on May 1, 2023.
Student Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a first time, full-time student enrolling at UMass Boston for the fall 2023 semester, immediately following graduation at MCC. Have not attended UMass Boston in the past.
- Graduate from MCC in May 2023
- Not available to applicants from community colleges graduating in the winter term.
- Must exemplify the success of the community college system in accomplishing the educational mission envisioned by Governor Furcolo.
- Earn an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
- A Massachusetts resident.
- It is open to U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents and DACA students.
- Students should have an application and official transcripts on file with UMass Boston.
