Steps for Project-Based Service-Learning

Identify MCC Course

Decide which Student Learning outcomes the project will seek to meet
Brainstorm possible projects or community issues of interest
Identify a local community partner
Arrange a three-way meeting with the community partner, faculty and Director of Service-Learning
Design the project as an integrated part of the course
Plan the reflection assignments and assessment component (Readings, reflection assignments, class discussions, assessments, and presentations)
Revise syllabus
Introduce service-learning to students as part of the curriculum, not an add-on
Have the community partner meet with the students
Oversee the project as part of a comprehensive curriculum
Produce a product for the community partner
Share reflections/presentations/outcomes as part of the curriculum
Assess student learning
Celebrate the achievement
