Civic Engagement

Are you looking to get involved in your community?
We provide you with civic and service-learning engagement opportunities to develop into a socially and civically responsible citizen.

Our Civic Engagement and Service-Learning team strives to:

  • Enrich your educational opportunities with transformational service experiences
  • Meet community needs
  • Foster civic responsibility throughout the College and the community.
  • Integrate service and action into the academic curriculum and the student experience

Being active in community events is one of the most meaningful experiences education offers. You can succeed through building collaboration and connection with faculty, staff, classmates and community partners.

We have been:

  1. Selected to participate in a national initiative supporting civic learning and demographic engagement by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (one of five community colleges in the U.S., and the only community college in Massachusetts).
  2. Selected by Campus Compact as one of only 13 colleges in the nation to be studied as a model of exemplary practices of civic engagement.
  3. Consistently been chosen for the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

Participating in our civic or service-learning opportunities will help you:

  • Distinguish the unique mission and values of a service-site, non-profit organization, civic group, program, or entity
  • Explain the connection between civic engagement experience and course content
  • Demonstrate the capacity to work collaboratively with peers and community partners
  • Recognize citizenship and describe your growing sense of civic identity and commitment to social justice
  • Express informed thought on ethical, social, environmental, political or personal beliefs
