Assistive Technology
Available Technology Includes:
- Adjustable tables/desks: For students who use wheelchairs or other mobility related equipment
- Audio recorders
- Carbonless notebooks
- CCTV: Used to enlarge material for students with visual disabilities
- Jaws: Screen reader software that speaks to a student who cannot see the information
- Kurzweil 3000: Screen reader software that highlights text as it reads. Assists students who have language processing learning disabilities in reading
- Livescribe Smartpen: A computerized note taking pen that synchronizes audio recording with written notes.
- Naturally Speaking/Dragon Dictate: Speech recognition software that allows the student to dictate to the computer instead of typing
- Personal amplification system: Used by students who are hard of hearing to amplify instructor's voice
- Read&Write: Software available throughout campus that combines screen reader and speech recognition software
- Zoom Text: Enlarges information on the computer screen for sight-impaired students
Please note! Equipment and software that is assigned to a DSS student may not be used by anyone else. Chairs and tables placed in classrooms or labs by DSS should not be moved without contacting us first.
