Middlesex Community College

In 2013, Middlesex and Northern Essex Community
College (NECC) signed an international-education articulation
agreement with Bath Spa University (BSU) in Bath, England,
that allows students to complete an associate degree in
selected programs at MCC or NECC, then transfer to BSU
to complete a bachelor's degree.
In the future, President Cowan would like to see international
education opportunities for Middlesex students continue
to expand. "I'd like students to be able to study for longer
periods of time," said Cowan. "It would be nice to be able to
send our students to countries where they may have interests,
such as France, Italy, or Greece," she added.
"I would also like to see a stronger number of international
students at Middlesex. We're slowly getting there through the
ground-breaking work we are doing in Cambodia," she added.
Middlesex has signed a memorandum of understanding to
partner with Cambodia's new American University of Phnom
Penh (AUPP). The agreement is the only one of its kind in
Cambodia that enables student access to U.S. universities
through a "1+1+2 pathway." Cambodian students attend
AUPP for one year, then transfer to MCC for a year to
complete an associate degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Through MassTransfer, students can then gain admission to
most Massachusetts public universities to complete a
bachelor's degree.
Cowan credits good leadership to the success of MCC's
international initiatives. "It takes the opportunity, but it also
takes the right people internally," said Cowan. "If we can
match the passion of the person with the job that needs to
be done as we've done in all of our international education
initiatives you know we've got a success on our hands."
