Walter Cronkite & Doris Kearns
Goodwin
 Terrific presenters; there was
great chemistry between them.
2000
·
Colin Powell
 Very gracious. He
was running America's Promise at the time
and shared a deep message about service.

·
George & Barbara Bush
 As down
to earth as you could imagine. At one point,
the three of us were sitting together before
the program, and it was like I was a member
of their family.

·
Rudy Giuliani
 I always have a
somber reaction when thinking about his
presentation. Before the event, we had a
meeting with the families of the local 9/11
victims, so it's cloaked in that tragedy.

·
David McCullough
 He was capti-
vating because of his presentation style, he
had this wonderful storytelling ability.
2004
·
Barbara Walters
 She was a star!
A few days before the event, she was as-
signed to cover President (Ronald) Reagan's
funeral and had to cancel. Then the next day,
she told us she could come after all. So, we
had to quickly put the whole event back on
track -- and she was great.
2005
·
Tim Russert
Like a true news-
man, he was fascinated by Lowell and
its architecture. Before the program, he,
literally, wanted to walk the streets. We had
all we could do to keep him on track and on
schedule.

·
Geena Davis
 Afterwards, she said
to me, "Do you know how many years of
speech therapy it took me to lose my Boston
accent? I spent a fortune losing your accent
and after tonight I'm going to have to go
back!"
